Hey Eric, discovery park launch is a good central location to launch. Lots of hotels right there by the launch. Lots of different restaurant choices up-and-down the river from there. Old Sacramento has a public dock as well as Chevy's on the river. Those are within 15 minutes from the dock by water. If you travel south an hour or so you'll get into Freeport. If you go further south you'll get into the Delta, unless you have a map it might be challenging to find your way around. There are navigation apps for your phone which help with the GPS in the Delta. You said a couple of hours Freeport is within that range from discovery Park. Swabby's on the river is north of discovery Park about an hour. We cruise at 20-25 kn so I based that time on that speed
Have fun George

Default New member in SoCal. 1962 Larson All American 166

Hello!
Introductory post from Brad and Barbara Costan in Ramona, CA (San Diego)

Recovering sailboat addicts for many years.

Now have a new vice......Power Boats !

Recently purchased a restored 1962 Larson All American 166 with a 1959 Little Dude trailer. Previous owner still had the original sales brochures for both the boat and trailer!

Previous addictions:

Catalina 22 sail
Catalina 30 sail
Catalina 34 sail

Speaking of Catalina, has anyone been brave enough to cross the channel in your Glassic ? Interested in trying ? Our favorite place in the whole world and can't wait to class up the island with our little Larson All American.

Looking forward to new gasoline powered adventures !!

Brad & Barbara

Welcome to GSG ! There is a los alametos run planned! Check the calendar. Maybe
you can meet up with some glass heads for an Avalon run. Better to leave the dock in the morning and then come back in the morning in a smaller boat. There used to be a no docks that you could tie up at. Mooring over night is the ticket. I always got nervous with the anchor in Avalon harbor we got stuck on anchor just off the casino because there were no moorings I woke up every two hours to adjust the anchor. Best to plan and make a reservation for a mooring. Or do you already know all this.

We spent many summers in Avalon and Two Harbors with the wind powered vessels. Once Labor Day passes, it's not a problem at all.

Welcome aboard.

Been to Avalon many times although not in a boat of my own, generally a Dive Boat, but would be willing to give it a go in the Seafair Sedan. I've taken small 21" boats out of Ventura and Oxnard to all of the costal islands on diving expeditions, all were in the late 70's early 80's.

You should consider attending the Long Beach cruise the weekend of Aug. 12-14. We would love to have some new folks.

By the way I am also a reformed sailor, Thistle, Catalina 22.25.27, Santana
20, we raced.

Look forward to seeing you.
